A flotation tank is a large fibreglass capsule, that contains 350 kgs of Epsom salt and water to a depth of 40 cms and heated to the same temperature of our skin at 34.5 degrees. This creates a zero gravity environment and allows your mind and body to drift into deep relaxation without the usual sensory input and overload from our modern day pace of life.
For you to experience the best possible state of relaxation, you first need to ensure that you are comfortable in your surroundings. If this means that you need to start your session with the lid open, you can, as you are always in full control of your session and can re-adjust as you desire. If you leave the lid open, you may find that the room is not completely dark but if your eyes are shut that’s not a problem. You may also feel cooler with the door open.
Many people who are worried that they will feel claustrophobic find that once they are in the tank and feel how spacious our tanks are and how easy the door is to open/close, any worries or concerns just melt away.
No, you do not need to wear bathers as you will be floating in complete privacy, however if you think you will feel more comfortable by all means bring them with you. We don’t recommend wearing bathers or underwear as these can be uncomfortable or cause a distraction to you whilst in the tank.
You only need to bring yourself and a change of clothes if you wish to. You may need a hair brush and personal toiletries eg deodorant , make up , perfume/aftershave etc.
No, the solution is thoroughly filtered between each client for at least 15-20 minutes and is filtered every hour around the clock for 15 minutes. We follow a strict regime of regular water quality testing and treatment.
Due to the fact that we use 350kgs of Epson salts in our tanks it can take the best part of 36 hours for the salt to completely dissolve and reach the correct temperature for optimal floating.
Anyone suffering from the following is advised not to float for their own safety as well as the safety of all clients:
Anyone with the following conditions are advised to check with their health practitioner prior to floating:
For hygiene reasons anyone who is menstruating must take additional precautions when floating & ensure they use appropriate sanitary products (tampons) to ensure no leakage during their float session as you would do in pool or spa. However, if you generally experience raised body temperature or stomach cramps then you may wish to reschedule your appointment as you may find it difficult to get comfortable.
Floating is experienced best when in your own Float Tank or Pool, which is why we do not offer shared sessions in the same tank or room.
Shared experiences work against Sensory deprivation and the benefits that can be achieved when floating solo.
We recommend that you maintain a regular commitment to your float sessions, as floatation therapy has an accumulative effect, therefore, the more regular your sessions, the more benefits you will experience.
Consideration should also be given to your stress levels, as regular floatation sessions can intercept and manage your stress cycle, which can help to prevent health issues such as poor sleep quality, lack of nutritional absorption, anxiety, depression, anger, phobias and PTSD.
It is perfectly safe to float while pregnant, however, it is suggested that you begin floating once you have reached your second trimester just to be on the safe side. Floating while breastfeeding is also perfectly safe.
